All Saints Church Owston Flower Festival 2012
Friday 13th, Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th July 2012
Open 10am – 5pm
Dear Friends,
Flower Festival time is here again. Hasn’t the time flown since Christmas!
Thank you to all who take part in the festival, it is very much appreciated and I think this adds to the praise of God: for this church has stood for over 800 years as a symbol of living faith.
Enjoy your visit to our beautiful 12th century church, look around the displays, feel the journey’s the arrangers have chosen and when you leave Owston after sampling our refreshments, take our love and friendship with you.
Thank you for your support.
Yours in friendship,
Rita Jones (Festival Chairman)
A Welcome from the Vicar
As you look around our Flower Festival this year, you may be reminded of journeys that you have made or perhaps would like to make. Some displays may depict famous journeys – either fact or fiction – some may be of everyday routine journeys, whilst others a trip of a lifetime. We hope that in making a journey to Owston today you will leave feeling that you have travelled further afield through tales of others.
But, we hope that you will leave with more than that, because this church has been here for over 800 years and if it could speak, would be able to tell many tales of God’s involvement in people’s journeys through life – the biggest journey that all of us make. Here, people have known God’s love through baptisms, weddings, funerals, worship and fellowship, concerts, open days etc., and we hope that you too will feel that love before you leave.
God Bless,
Revd. Margaret.

St. George’s Supper

Many thanks to all the people who helped make the supper on 25th April – it were such a good evening!

From guests who came dressed up, the dragon which danced and was ceremoniously and ignominiously killed, the serving wenches and the variety of cooks and kitchen and scullery maids, everyone joined together to make it an evening to remember.

The fact that over £350 was raised seems unimportant!

Young Explorers Jumble Sale

We would like to thank everyone who provided us with a vast amount of jumble for our recent sale.

We raised a magnificent sum of £210.00. Part of the money raised is to be given to the DRI Sensory Unit, a project that the children have chosen to support this year. There are plans to take the children to look round the unit and give their donation.

Your help and support on the day, plus sorting and selling items were really appreciated as always.

Heritage Weekend – Saturday 19th June

The heritage weekend is Saturday 19th June, 10am-4pm and Sunday 20th June 12pm-4pm. The church is open to allow people to look around at the history of the past 800 years.

There are many interesting things to see and there will be a light refreshments stall, souvenirs and homemade cards, along with a special stand displaying photos of couples married at Owston over the years, as was advertised in last months’ magazine.

Let Dianne or Rita have your wedding photo with names and dates accompanying it and we will return them to you after the event. Most of the other churches in Doncaster will be open for this Heritage Weekend too.

Easter Lillies

Thank you to everyone who gave donations for the Easter lilies in memory of loved ones. There is a card on the windowsill near the lectern with the names on.

You were more than generous and we were able to buy more flowers than usual and make the church look beautiful for Easter Sunday to celebrate Christ’s rising from the dead and Gods’ promise that we will have a place also prepared.

Thank you to everyone for their thanks and good wishes for my work as church warden. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the congregation for all your contributions and help in making the past six years possible.

Easter Flowers

Thank you to everyone who gave generously for the Easter flowers in memory of loved ones at St. Michaels’. Your loved ones were remembered in flowers and also in our prayers.

A big thank you to all who helped to decorate the church, especially the ladies from the newly formed flower group who donated their arrangements for the Easter Garden. The whole church looked beautiful and the scent from the flowers gave a feeling of peace.
